Alphonse Izzo remembers hearing Straussâ Thus Spake Zarathustra as a boy while staring at a tank of gold fish swimming in endless circles. Heâs attempted to recreate that strange and beautiful juxtaposition through his music ever since. His compositions have been performed in the USA, Canada and abroad and his music also appears on CD through the Paris based Trace Label. Ground was composed by imagining the sound of a Harpsichord attempting to break out of its own sonic cage.

Jessica Bonenfant makes dances here, there and everywhere. She is Creative Director of Odonata Dance Project and one half of Greenfield & Bon: Purveyors of Fine Dance Theatre, a Brooklyn based duo that performs, tours and educates with a focus on collaboratively created dance theatre and contemporary partnering.

Big Donut

While sitting in a cafe at 8:30 am, I noticed a mother and her 3-year-old daughter. The girl happily wore a whipped cream mustache from the hot chocolate she was drinking. Realizing, however, that the offered donut was nor of adequate size, she began to complain. Her dissatisfaction quickly escalated into a full-blown kicking-and-screaming tantrum, while her mother--scratched and fully distressed--had to make a hasty exit. From an early age, David Hahn was forced to wake up before dawn to begin an hours-long trudge through frost-bitten and dilapidated industrial ghettos to get to his job making donuts in a major American metropolis. Despite all odds--or perhaps because of it--he was able to learn the basics of music composition from a fellow survivor and trans-fat connoisseur. Improvisation structure: Jeramy Zimmerman. A Short Piece

A Short Piece was actually an assignment for my Computer Music class. I took it rather more seriously than just yet another boring homework assignment. I really felt challenged by the fact that the piece had to be exactly one minute in length, and I tried to really come up with something that had a great deal of depth and meaning and structure to it. Nathan Asman, recently graduated Denison University in Granville, Ohio.. Nathan Asman, currently lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he was born and raised. Pascal Rekoert, performed with European choreographers and in 1997 received the coveted Prix de Bonheur du Rue St. Denis in Paris, France. As a choreographer he has presented his own work in European and American theaters. He created the movie “Erasmusspitzen,” which premiered at IFFR January 2000. He moved to NYC 8 years ago and hasbeen working with Jennifer Muller ever since. Dancer: Pascal Rekoert

“Magic Sideline was an experiment with lots of things. Growing up I used to listen exclusively tohardcore punk with the belief that songs shouldn't exceed the 1-2 minute mark. Over the years my tastes have broadened, but I still appreciate the immediacy of short pieces, condensing lots of ideas into a sharp blast of noise. REVOLUTION 59 is a unique, one-of-a-kind, multilayered 3-dimensional work: It is a question, a challenge and a statement. 1) The question: You say you want a revolution? 2) The challenge: Saturating an iPod and its terminating ear at the frequency of 86 Hz at -13db for another 5 seconds after the piece is over; 3) The statement: Just look around you. Leslie de Melcher was born and educated in Paris, France and lived in New York City on 43rd Street for many years. He currently resides in Toronto, Canada. Some of his works have been published, some have won awards, and some have never been heard. Leah Schrager is a member of White Wave/Young Soon Kim Dance Company, apprenticing with Zvi Gotheiner's company, and dancing with Berlin-based choreographer Catherine Slusher. She collaborates with other artists on experimental interdisciplinary work, including art film, music video, gallery installation, print design, and rock show.

Paper Study is Gilles Maillet’s first electroacoustic composition. He is studies at Concordia University Electroacoustic Studies Programan dis a member of Montreal noise/rock trio "ttttttttttttttttttttt". Denise Binder received her BA in Dance from DeSales University. Her passion for movement has given her the opportunity to teach dance to many disabled children and adults over the years. She is currently teaching and choreographing at the Pennsylvania Youth Theatre in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Dancer: Denise Binder

musical contraption #1: A wheezing and rattling machine. Raised in Warm Springs, Georgia, Alan Shockley holds degrees in composition and theory from the University of Georgia, Ohio State, and Princeton. He’s held residencies at the MacDowell Colony, the Atlantic Center for the Arts, the Centro Studi Ligure, and the Virginia Center for the Arts, among others. Jennifer C. Harmer is a founding member of Misnomer Dance Theater, and she was a senior company member of Murray Spalding Movement Arts for four years. Since graduating from NYU Tisch School of the Arts, she has worked with Sara Pearson/Patrik Widrig & Co., Mark Dendy, Tina Croll, Axis of Eve, Dance Anonymous, the Kinesis Project, and has filmed a ballet video for Finis Jhung. She currently performs as the Baronass von Harmer with Lady Rizo & The Assets. Her choreography has been shown at Vital Theatre, Lot 61, the Fringe Festival, Battery Park, in New York public schools, and as a mobile installation piece on the streets of New York. Jennifer is a certified Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis instructor, as well as a Bagua practitioner and enthusiast. Michael Hogan has been seen on TV, film and stage as an actor and musician. Written to commemorate the centennial birth of Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, Hommage To Villa-Lobos is the first part introduction to a 4 part work. Jeff Raheb was born in Brooklyn, New York and received his BA for Music composition at City University of New York. He is also a published poet and photographer. He won first place in people category for Smithsonian Magazine. His photo was published in the August, 2006 issue of Smithsonian Magazine. Jamie Dowd was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dowd attended Indiana University graduating with a BA in Integrated Dance Performance. Since relocating to New York, she has had the opportunity to dance with Sarah Council Dance Projects along with producing her own works with The Sycamore Project in venues such as: Wax Works, Solar One, City Center, The Kaye Playhouse, and at the Cunningham Studios. Courtney Brown has long harbored aspirations of becoming an Edward Gorey heroine, but her attempts have thus far been foiled. In lieu of her unlikely but tragic demise, she makes strange dark music and fiddles with electronics. Alaine Handa holds a BA in World Arts & Cultures w/a concentration in dance from UCLA. In New York, she has performed with Keigwin + Company, Sasha Soreff Dance Theater, Open Floor Dance, and The Movement Collective, among others. Her work has been shown at University Settlement, Merce Cunningham Studio Theater, Abrons Art Center, Teatro la Tea, Movement Research, Dance New Amsterdam, and beyond. Yoonjung Choi is born in Seoul, South Korea. She went to Deowon Art High School in South Korea. She then continued her studies at the University of Oklahoma and graduated with a BFA in Dance in 2007. "All week I kept hearing an interesting sound in my head. I looked for something like it in recordings but didn't find it so I ended up making it myself. This is how my composing began in the first place, wanting to hear or play kinds of music I looked for but couldn't find already made." Laurie Spiegel is a composer who can never predict her own music even if she thinks she is planning it in advance. Erica Nelson is a dancing lawyer who has worked with choreographers Julio Rivera, Stephen Koplowitz and Stephanie Nelson among others. Erica is now a full-time attorney and new mother and is thrilled to have this moment to dance again. Dancers: Amanda Martin and Erica Nelson

Marimbell uses Logic software instruments sound – marimba and bell. An active composer and pianist, HyeKyung (born in Seoul, Korea) holds a D.M.A in Composition and Performance Certificate in Piano from the University of Texas at Austin. An accomplished pianist, HyeKyung has performed her own compositions and others in numerous contemporary music festivals and conferences in the United States, Europe, and Korea. Henry's Trai(p)(f)(m) is an attempt to capture just a small fraction of the excitement and fascination that my two-year old has with trains. Mike McFerron is an associate professor of music and composer-in- residence at Lewis University and he is founder and co-director of Electronic Music Midwest. A past fellow the MacDowell Colony, June in Buffalo, and the Chamber Music Conference of the East/Composers’ Forum, honors include, among others, first prize in the Louisville Orchestra Composition Competition, first prize in the CANTUS commissioning/residency program, and recipient of the CCF Abelson Vocal Music Commission. Cathy Verdicia Richards likes to experiment with numbers and shapes in an emotionally open space. Her choreography has been seen at the Bushwick Starr, in the Cool New York 2007, Chashama's OASIS 2007, 2006, and 2005 Festival, DUMBO 2007, 2006, and 2005 Festival, BAM Local Development/ Chashama's 2005 Outside Art Festival, Merce Cunningham Studio. Salma Allam is the co-director of DefiANCE and a founding member of Movement in C. David Ben Shannon is an English composer. Working predominantly in film and theatre, he is a music graduate of the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and is based in Merseyside, England. Artistic Director of LiNK! the Movement, Ginger Cox is multifaceted career has taken her all over the world. She choreographs for film, industrials, stage and sports. Cluster Encroachment

Cluster Encroachment is a 60 second tone cluster that gives the impression of an invasion or an infringement. The piece represents how a cancer can overcome a living organism only to die itself when successfully taking over its host. Mark Scarpelli is a composer/teacher residing in Charleston, West Virginia. Mark's main focus is on writing music for the stage, where he has collaborated with lyricist, Dan Kehde and penned the music for four operas, seven musicals, a book of vignettes, and four children's ballets. Courtney Zbinden studied dance at NorthwesternUniversity under Laura Wade and Molly Shanahan. Dancers: Courtney Zbinden and Dillon Porter.

The Kronecker Delta is an electronic through-composed piece using enhanced orchestral and synthetic timbres. Tim Mukherjee is a composer living in New York City and divides his time between artistic and monetary pursuits. EDP DANCE PROJECT a NJ based Modern Dance Company and the resident company of Silk City Arts Festival. The mission of both the festival and dance company is to rebuild the arts in inner- cities through exposure. EDP DANCE PROJECT prides itself on bringing the individual to the movement. Erin Pride graduated from Montclair State University with a B.F.A. in Dance and is currently attending NYU for her M.F.A. in Dance Education. Erin, a New Jersey native, is the Director of Dance at Rosa Parks High School of Fine and Performing Arts and the Artistic Director of Silk City Arts Festival/ EDP Dance Project all located in Paterson New Jersey. Michelle Puskas recently received her B.F.A. degree, Magna Cum Laude in Dance from Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts. She was the recipient of the Garden State Arts Foundation 2007 Thomas H. Kean Scholarship. Michelle is currently a scholarship student with Jennifer Muller/The Works in NYC. Sixty Second Serenade represents my continued fascination with discovering the soul that humans design into their machinery, and coaxing humanity from technology. It is a love song to those who have remained so devoted and sympathetic to me over the years: my beautiful machines. Todd Merrell studied composition and voice at Berklee College of Music, and with James Sellars of The Hartt School, and works primarily with single sideband shortwave radio, granular synthesis, and processing. He has been reviewed in The Wire and other publications, and recorded for labels including Archive and Mode.
